Weaving Hoops Art Class
October 16 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm$68.00 – $148.00
Ancient civilizations used circle shaped hoops made from bone, trees and various natural elements to hold hides, handmade paper and cloth while they stitched various patterns to them. Robes, clothing, tapestries and the like were embroidered. In the 1700’s the Tabor hoop was used to make intricate lace and the hoop continued to evolve into the current day wood and plastic hoops.
Join us for an amazing day of creation at Terramuse. Comfortable seating, expansive views of nature, music and great company will allow creativity to flow for this centuries old craft.
In this hands on class we will use the classic wooden hoop frame to create a “woven” piece of art. Students will learn how to thread a hoop to make a grid in which various yarns and fibers will be threaded. Imported and local fibers from llamas, sheep, buffalo, and natures fibers will be used. Students will walk the grounds at Terramuse learning about and collecting grasses, stems, sticks and anything that attracts the eye to adorn the hoops.
Once the circle hoop is complete, students learn to make tassels, twists and braids to hang from the hoop if desired.
